But Health Secretary Andrew Lansley will be, at or just after 3.30.

Don’t miss it.

By the way, if anybody wants to comment on the White Paper, or more generally, you can email us - editorial AT healthpolicyinsight.com (you will get a message that the inbox is full. Ignore it). Or email me directly to andycowper AT hotmail.com

Fun, fun, fun. I will be offline 1.30-3.30.

Editor’s blog Monday 12 July 2010: The NHS White Paper - some more questions in search of answers

Publish Date/Time:
07/12/2010 - 09:37

Good morning. I think there may be some new people visiting today with the publication of what is clearly in no way one of those "top-down reorganisations of the NHS that have got in the way of patient care". (unless the evidence suggests otherwise, of course.

Welcome to Health Policy Insight if you’re a new or infrequent reader. I hope you find the site useful.

Editor’s blog Monday 12 July 2010: The vuvuzela of rumour

Publish Date/Time:
07/12/2010 - 07:13

Good morning. Wasn't it a pleasure to see victory go to the team who didn't foul like an incontinent dog?

This afternoon, at 3.30 or thereabouts, the vuvuzela of rumour will be silenced when the NHS White Paper is due to be released. We will offer some coverage in the run-up, though we will be in a media 'lock-down' between 1.30 and 3.30.

Editor’s blog Sunday 11 July 2010: What happens next, Part Two - making commissioning work: the four kinds of GP

Publish Date/Time:
07/11/2010 - 13:11

I wrote something about the new system a few weeks back, on the subject of power in the NHS. Part Two has been delayed for fairly obvious reasons, but is now with you.

The new system is coming, whether we like it or not, with tomorrow afternoon's publication of the NHS White Paper. Tomorrow morning I will post a series of questions, which we must hope it will answer.

Guest editorial Saturday 10 July 2010: Evidence suggests short-term effect of NHS redisorganisation are mostly negative

Publish Date/Time:
07/09/2010 - 22:24

James Gubb, director of the health unit at Civitas, reviews the recent evidence in their new report about the effect on performance of redisorganising the NHS.

The Coalition government’s plan to hand control of the bulk of the commissioning of health care in the NHS – potentially as much as £80 billion of resources – from primary care trusts (PCTs) to consortia of GPs have been widely trailed in the press.

Editor’s blog Friday 9 July 2010: My words - salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup ...

Publish Date/Time:
07/09/2010 - 12:27

Schoolboy error: I failed to think about the possibility of a 'media bounce' for the Green-if-not-blank NHS White Paper. Tempting as it is, I'm not going back to edit stuff.

I got it wrong. No excuses.

Editor’s blog Thursday 8 July 2010: Hurrah for Don Berwick (oh yeah, and some bloke called Obama too)

Publish Date/Time:
07/08/2010 - 18:42

IHI supremo Don Berwick has been Presidentially appointed (read 'given the job by Barack Obama in the teeth of Republican senatorial opposition') to run the Medicare and Medicaid federal healthcare programmes in the USA.

This is very good news for the US healthcare system. Berwick is a very smart man.

Assuming he has not Tom Daschle-type tax 'issues', Berwick will make a huge difference. He's been a supportive critical friend of the NHS, and knows about the pitfalls of sundry things we've tried here.

The Maynard Doctrine: The opposite of evidence – faith-based policymaking

Professor Alan Maynard looks for the evidence justifying proposed new changes. And looks. And looks …

“Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried” GK Chesterton

Chesterton’s views on Christianity are replicated in healthcare by policy wonks who base their works on faith rather than evidence. The left declare all things “private” to be the devil’s work, whilst the right regard government as twice cursed!
