The Guardian report by Lisa Evans says that "320 NHS trusts and foundations ... completed this form last year".

You may have noticed that the White Paper has not gone down too well here. Clearly it would be churlish to suggest that a terrible typo took place, and that the ‘W’ should have been an ‘S’.

But I’ve felt a degree of unease about responding negatively to it, and yesterday I realised why. The underlying ideas – the foundations – are correct.

Clinicians do need to be involved in commissioning, if is to become effective.

Information on NHS-funded performance does need to be more open.

One benefit of the recent spike in Health Policy Insight’s readership has been receiving more emails from front-line staff concerned in how policy redisorganisation will affect their lives at the sharp end. That is the sharp end not as in budget meetings, but as in delivering patient care.

A cleverer man than I, with more experience of policy matters (yes, I know it doesn't narrow the field that much) once pronounced, "beware alliteratively-titled policy documents. They're invariably not very good".

How right he remains.

A few thoughts about last night's NHS Green-Going-On-White Paper special issue of Newsnight on BBC2.

1. Why did Kirsty Wark dress up as a humbug? Was this a visual reference to the mighty ambition but scant operational detail on offer in 'Equity And Excellence: Liberating the NHS'?
